This experiment was carried out to induce polyploids by colchicine treatment in clones of Namdo-garlic (Album sativum L.). Calli were induced by culturing shoot apexes in MS medium supplemented with 2.0 §·¡¤L^(-1) 2,4-D and 30 g¡¤L^(-1) sucrose. Calli were suspension-cultured with liquid media added different concentrations of colchicine for different periods. Colchicine concentrations were five levels of 0.1, 1.0, 10, 20, and 50 mM and treatment periods were of 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 days. The optimum concentration and period of colchicine to obtain polyploid was 1.0 mM for 6¡10 days. After acclimatization, initial growth of polyploid was slower than that of diploid but its growth speed was recovered in the late stage. The plumped bulbs of polyploids were lower than those of diploids and the many divided bulbs were observed.
